Comments
Our loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Pete Morrelli passed away surrounded by his family in Austin,TX on November 9, 2022. He leaves behind his wife Gay Stearns Morrelli, his son, Peter Nicholas Morrelli (spouse, Jana Morrelli), two daughters Kelly Gay Morrelli, (spouse, Tracy Frederick), and Mandy Lea Morrelli Young, (spouse, Paul Young) and four grandchildren, Addison Kelly Young, Jackson Philip Young, Avery Jay Morrelli, and Miley Lee Morrelli. Pete is also survived by two younger brothers, John Morrelli (wife Karen) of Tulare, California and Greg Morelli (wife Isabel) of
Portimao, Portugal. Pete is also survived by many loving cousins,
nieces, and nephews. Peter E. Morrelli. was born in Chicago, Illinois, December 5th, 1943, to Betty Lee Baxter Morrelli (mother) and Father Herbert E. Morrelli. He spent most of his childhood
growing up in Tulare, California where he graduated from Tulare Union High School in 1961. He lettered in three sports, football, basketball, and baseball. Pete was an outstanding student due to his hard work and dedication to excellence in all his endeavors.
Pete was an active member of his 1966 Air Force Academy graduating class and served in the Air Force from 1966-1987 in many capacities such as a B52 pilot and in the Military Police. He served in the Vietnam War, and some may not know that Pete
played a role in the BAT-21 rescue, helping to rescue a USAF 1 st Lieutenant from the jungles of Vietnam. Pete loved to recall funny stories and memories about his classmates and time at the Air Force Academy, as well as his service. He enjoyed playing baseball and football at the Air Force Academy.
Pete and his family were based in Minot, Carswell, Guam and Honolulu throughout his time in the Air Force. After his Air Force career, Pete was a pilot for Pan Am and Southwest Airlines. He also taught avionics at Flight Safety International in the Dallas
Fort Worth area before he retired in 2007. During retirement, Pete enjoyed playing golf and umpiring for little league baseball games. He also loved to play his trumpet in the community band, play with his grandchildren, volunteer at his church, and attend any sporting event he could, especially Air Force and Longhorn football games. In any situation, Pete was always happy to be there to help unconditionally.
Memorial services for Pete will be held at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs in Spring of 2023. More information regarding services will be announced to family and friends at a later date.
